Welt and Pique weave Step-by-Step
construction method
Pique Weave
Pique weaves are known as waved pique weaves. This weave
design is a modification of the welt structure. In welt structure, simple
horizontal lines appear on the surface but in pique weave design lines appear
in the form of a wave and due to this reason these weaves are called waved
pique.
First of we require two types of ends and
picks to construct the pique weave design that is
plain ends and stitching ends
plain picks and wadded picks
We need a motif to construct the weave as
given below
In this Motif, we used 12 weft yarns
and 6 stitching warp
Now we make pique weave using this motif
STEP – 1
To calculate the repeat size of the weave.
For this, we will decide the ratio of plain ends to stitching ends and face
picks to wadded picks. Here we took
Plain ends: Stitching ends
2:
1
Face
pick: Wadded pick
6: 2
So in our motif, we used 6 stitching ends
So as per the ratio 2: 1 we need 12 plain
ends for 6 stitching
In the same way for 12 picks of motif, we
need 4 wadded picks
So our repeat size will be
12+6 = 18 warp yarns
12+4 =16 weft yarns
Now draw a graph of 18 x 16 as given
below
STEP – 2
Now we fill the plain ends (P) with a plain
weave that is all the plain ends are filled with plain weave 1 up 1 down weave as
shown below
Stitching ends and wadded picks are left blank
STEP- 3
In this step, we fill the design of the motif in
the weave this design we will fill in only stitching ends
As shown below
STEP – 4
In this step, we will fill the wadded picks.
We will fill the wadded picks where they intersect with plain ends only and
where the wadded pick intersect with the stitching end that place will be left
blank. As shown in the figure below
