Jala Technique on Handloom: Mechanism, Parts and Weaving Process Introduction The Jala technique is a traditional method of producing figured designs on a handloom. It uses a specially prepared arrangement of cords and threads to control selected warp threads so that intricate motifs can be woven into the fabric. Before the widespread use of mechanical Jacquard attachments, Jala and related drawloom systems were important methods for producing complex figured patterns. Traditional Jala systems are still associated with skilled handloom weaving in several Indian weaving traditions.
