There are Two mainly methods to calculate the GSM of Fabric some methods are:
1) Fabric GSM from the piece weight:-
Total weight of a bundle = 47.25 Kg
Total Length of the Bundle= 150 Metre
Fabric Width= 100'' Inch
Calculate the GSM?
GSM Formula= Piece weight in Kg x 39.37" x 1000
Piece length in Metre x Fabric Width
* Note = 39.37" (means One Metre)
= 47.25 x 39.37 x 1000
150 x 100
= 1860232.5

=124.01 Grams
So Ans is GSM= 124.01 Grams Per Square Metre.
a) Another way of calculation of above data is:-
Solution -
Total weight of a bundle = 47.25 Kg
Total Length of the Bundle= 150 Metre
Fabric Width= 100'' Inch
Width = 100 Inches = 2.5 Maters
Fabric Area = Length x Width
So= 150 x 2.54 = 381 Metre Square
Weight of 375 Metre Square is 47.25 Kg weight according to data or 47250 Grams.
The formula is = Total Weight in Grams
Metre Square
So Ans is Weight of One Square Metre = 47250
381
Ans= 124.01 Grams
2) Fabric GSM from the Technical Data:-
Material = Cotton
EPI=60 Count=30s Crimp=2.5%
PPI=50 Count=20s Crimp=3.5%
* Note- EPI is in Inches but the GSM is in the Metre unit and 1 Metre= 39.37" Inch.
First, calculate the Warp in 1 Metre-
* Note that- 1 Metre = 1.0937 Yard.
Warp GSM formula= EPI x Width (in Inch) x 1.0937 x (1 + Warp crimp % / 100) x 1000
Unit Length of Yarn x 2.202 x warp count
So GSM= 60 x 39.37 x 1.0937 x (1 + 2.5 / 100) x 1000
840 x 20202 x 30
= 2648126.5935

=47.72 Grams
Weft GSM formula= PPI x Width (in Inch) x 1.0937 x (1 + Weft crimp % / 100) x 1000
Unit Length of Yarn x 2.202 x weft count
So GSM= 50 x 39.37 x 1.0937 x (1 + 3.5 / 100) x 1000
840 x 20202 x 20
= 2228301.64575

=60.23 Grams
So finally The Fabric GSM is in 1 Metre = Warp in Grams + Weft in Grams
= 47.72 warp + 60.23 weft = 107.95 Grams.
Ans is 107.9 Grams.
