Terry Towel

Introduction

Pile weave fabric is the fabrics which are having piles on their surface. The piles can be on the face side or on the backside or it can be on both sides of the fabric. Example Towel, velvet Warp pile fabric

The fabric in which the piles are formed with the help of an extra warp is a warp pile fabric. In this, the pile warp yarn forms the pile on the surface of the fabric. In this type of fabric, we use two series of warp and one series of the weft. Example Towel, Terry Towel Weft pile fabric.

Generally in the Turkish Towel found a Warp pile weave effect means loop formation at Towel. They are Warp-pile fabrics and characterised by a series of Loops, Piles formed by the help of an extra series of loose Warp threads, projecting from the main body of the cloth. To weave this effect, it requires 2 Warp in 2 Beams (one for the ground. cloth, heavily weighted and the other for the pile cloth, lightweight with just sufficient to prevent the Pile).

Yarn coming off the Bearn to freely, I e. to enable the Pile ends to come off the beam easily for the formation of the Loops, i.e. (by means of adjustable weights). The Pile Beam should be fitted above the Ground Beam.

Generally, each Beam contains an equal number of Ends (only the Ground Beam will possess some extra-ends for the Selvedges). The Pile-Warp is generally 3 to 5 times longer than the Ground-Warp. The length of the Pile Warp depends upon the length of the Loops, desired, Each Warp is dented by one End in a dent of the Reed i.e, in the final Reed, each dent will possess 2 Ends (1 ground end and 1 pile-end). Generally, the pile-ends are used coarser than the ground-ends, such as, if 2/30s ground-ends then the pile-ends should be of 2/20s.

 Piles or Loops Formation -

Terry motions in Power-loom. But in Hand-loom, depressing the Healds 1 & 2 insert a Pick and leave it at a short distance, say an inch "gap" from the "Fell of the Cloth" and then the 3 successive Picks of Weft (3.4, 3.2, 1.4) are beaten up against the Ist. Pick (1.2) which was left at a gap of an inch from the "Fell of the Cloth"; after which, by the help of the Reed they are all published together to the "Fell of the final Cloth" followed by 2 binding-picks (2.3 and 1.4), so that the former of the Loops may not be affected, Then again depressing the Healds 3 & 4 insert a Pick and leave it at the same distance as was in the first case and then the 3 successive Picks of Weft (1.2, 1,1, 2.3) are beaten against theist. Pick (3.4) in this case; after which they are all pushed together as before to the "Fell of the final Cloth", followed by 2 binding picks (1.4 and 2.3). Thus forming the Loops on the face and back of the cloth. It is called 4-Pick Terry Structure". Terry Fabric is termed as 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7-Pick Terry Fabric etc.

Picks for each row of loops is to produce a superior fabric and to bind the pile-ends more securely to the foundation of texture. Tie-up-1-3, 2-4. Formation of Loops on either side of the fabric- Drafting: 1.2.3.4. Here the Healds 2 & 3 are for the loops and 1 & 4 for the grounds. Lifting 4, 1.2.3, 2.3.4-1 (Loop in one side), 2.3.4, 1, 4-1.2.3 (Loop in the other side). Tie-up: Bow, Weight or Spring.

CHEQUERED EFFECT ON TURKISH TOWEL

Warping, Beaming, Denting arrangements etc. are the same as in the case of ordinary Turkish Towelling; but in this case, only the Pile-beam contains multi-coloured yarns, such as I read 1 blue etc, or as you like, Healds 1 & 2 are for the ground. ends and 3 & 4 for the pile-ends. Drafting : (1.3.2.3) as desired, (1.4.2.4) as desired. Lifting: (2.4, 1,3, 2,3-1.4) as desired, (1.3 2.4, 14-2.3) as desired, Tie-up : 1-2, A suitable weaving Particulars-48s reed, 2/30s 3-4. ground.warp, 2/20s pile-warp, 16s weft,

Another mechanical method can be adopted for the formation of a warp-pile. Iron rods of any desired diameter may be inserted as if picks of weft, with all loop-ends upon the rods and subsequently after inserting the required number of ground-picks those iron rods are withdrawn, Ornamentation-The Terry Weaves may be embellished with the help of Dobby or Jacquard; but the richest kind of Terry Weave is woven on ordinary hand-loom only. The pile warp-ends may be printed, painted or coloured with Mock Grandrelle-effect, Figured Terry Pile Fabrics-In the production of figured Terry-pile fabrics the ground-ends are controlled by the Healds and the multicoloured pile-ends for figuring are controlled by the Jacquard Harness.

The fabric in which the piles are formed with the help of extra weft yarn. In this, the pile weft yarn forms the pile on the surface of the fabric. In this two series of weft and one series of warp yarn used. Example velveteen fabric Terry pile fabric

Terry pile fabric is one of the types of warp pile fabric. It is mostly used in the construction of towels. Introduction to terry pile structure.

Terry pile fabric is mostly used for industrial purposes. The terry pile fabrics are also known as Turkish towelling. It is a type of warp pile structure. In this type of structure certain warp yarns form loops on the surface of the fabric. In this, we use only one series of weft but two series of warp yarns. One is ground warp and another is pile warp yarn.

Types of Terry Towels

3-pick terry pile fabric, 4-pick terry pile fabric, 5-pick terry pile fabric, 6-pick terry pile fabric, Construction of terry pile fabric

In the construction of terry pile fabric, we use a different type of arrangement. In this certain gap created between the true cloth fell and succeeding picks of the fabric. The length of the gap depends on the height of the loop required.

If shorter loops required then the gap will be less. If longer loops required then the gap will be more. In this type of fabric, loops can be on both sides. If the loops are on a single side then it is a Single side structure. If the loops are on both sides it is a double side structure.

Jala Technique Mechanism |  Jala on Handloom Saree| What is Jala technique?                     The handloom Jala technique is one of the oldest in the history of weaving. It is used in the 19 th century. Earlier when the design required on fabric the weaver has used the Jala technique . In this technique, we require a Jala frame in which there is the Pagia, Naka and the Khewa is the main important parts of this Jala . It produces both in border and cross-border design on the cloth. In this technique, we used an extra weft to fill the design. The main advantage of this technique is it is easy to produce a corner design means which is located at the joint of the border and cross-border design, said the Bishnupuri weaver of West Bengal. The Baluchuri Silk Saree is famous in Vishnupur in the Bankura district of West Bengal. Real picture of Jala Mechanism during weaving process-  Picture was taken by P. Meher Picture was tak...

REED| Definition of Reed: Function of Reed in Handloom      Reed in Handloom – Definition & Functions Definition A Reed (also called a metallic reed or comb) is an essential component of a handloom, fixed to the sley (or slay) with a reed cap. Each vertical stick in the reed is called a split or wire. The gap between two splits/wires is known as a dent. Types of Reed:-   1. Country Reed (Bamboo Reed) – Traditionally made of bamboo.   2. English Reed (Steel or Brass) – Made from durable metals for precision weaving.   Functions of a Reed- 1. Pushes the last laid picks of weft to the fell (edge) of the cloth. 2. Maintains the correct position of warp threads. 3. Acts as a guide for the shuttle when passing from one box to another. 4. Determines the density of the fabric. 5. Maintains the desired width of the fabric. 6. Helps achieve the required Ends Per Inch (EPI) and Picks Per Inch (PPI).   Systems of Reed Co...
