Twill weave:

          Twill Weave are extensively employed in the construction of endless varieties of useful fabrics. The general characteristics of this weave in that they run diagonally. They may be either warp or weft in equal quantities on the face and back of the fabric or uneven. It may run either right to left or left to right.

          The Twill weaves may broadly be classified into 6 categories : 

1. Regular twill

2. Zig Zag or Pointed

3. Rearranged twill

4. Combined or mixed twill

5. Broken Twill

6. Fancy Twill (Other varieties)

            The construction of Twill weave or Twill cloth is clearly demonstrated as below :

Prominency of Twill:

The prominence of Twill line clarify depends upon-

1. the character ow weave.

                  The Diagonals of Twill will be relatively more pronounced if developed from long floats; but in that case, to make the texture of a fabric firm and strong the interlacement of Ends and Picks should be counter-balanced by a proportionate increase in their number per inch. 

2. The Character of yarn- 

             Comparatively more pronounced Diagonals will be developed from Coarse, Soft or Folded Yarns than from Single or Fine Yarns. 

3. The number of Ends and Picks per inch-

              A Twill will be relatively more or less prominent in proportion to the number of Ends and Picks are inserted per inch, otherwise, the effect may be affected by the formation of the high or low angle.

4. The direction of Twill in relation to the direction of twist in the yarn-

              If a Twill Cloth is woven with the yarn of the same twist, the diagonal will look inclined to the right on one side and to the left on the opposite side. Therefore the direction of Twill in relation to the direction of twist is different on each side of the fabric, with the result the Twill appear to be more prominent on one side than the other. If Z-twist warp is used along with S-twist Weft then the diagonal will be bolder.
