It is nothing but a simple hanging frame carrying a Reed in front of the weaver's beam
An example is - Back Stripe loom, loin loom, Vertical loom. It may be also termed as ''Sley less loom."This types of Handloom is very ancient since 5000 years ago. In this types of loom, there is no need for any extra devices means the equipment to make cloth, just to require a few Bamboo stick and yarn. First of all, before weaving we make a warp sheet which is made very easy with the two hard bamboo stick according to the requirement of length. Then we make one no of heald shaft on the warp. After making the heald to arrange some pieces of Bamboo with the special arrangement to open the warp sheet. Then we start picking through a bamboo stick, after that, we beat the lastly inserted pick with the help of bitter. As there are we continue to produce cloth. If we need any design on a cloth to require a skilled weaver to lift the warp thread according to design and then inserted an extra weft on it.
It is mostly seen in North-East India and the very famous product Mekhla Chadar.
2: Pit Loom :
Pit loom is an ancient loom after the Primitive loom. In-Pit Loom there is a requirement of pre-processing of weaving, such as like that in the Warping area there are two types of one is Strate warping another is that Beam warping. After that Drafting, Denting, Looming and lastly Weaving. Then now we are moving towards loom setup, in that we require Slay/ Sley, Sley holder and a pit to arrange the treadle. Pit means hole it is situated at the middle of loom-set where the weaver to seat and weave. According to the people that the weaver of the pit loom just like a half-dead man means that the half body part is at the pit and another half at the above so that some people said. But these types of pit loom are better to weave Silk Fabric. In the term of location, it is very popular and mostly seen in the Odisha Varanasi (UP) and South or some part of all over India.
The frame loom (fly shuttle) is invented by John Key in 1733. Frame loom is a loom in which all the complete set-up made by a wooden frame installed on the floor. It has a similar mechanism to the Pit loom. But the main advantage of this loom is to movable from one place to another place easily. It has also carried two sets of beam one is a warp beam and another one is a cloth beam. It is mostly used in the research and development of handloom product in various offices. It is available different size that is 40,45,50,52,56 90 and 120 Reed Space (RS).Mainly used for Saree and dress materials purpose.
4 : Semi automatic handloom :
The last types of handloom are the semi-automatic handloom.
Why is called a semi-automatic handloom?
Because of that in its, some function of the loom are automatic and some are manual.
A beat example is the Chittaranjan Semi-automatic handloom, in which there are secondary motion is automatic. And others are manual.
